Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium: All about Punjab Kings' new turf
Punjab Kings are poised to compete in all their home fixtures in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) at a fresh venue.
On Monday, the team declared that their home games for the upcoming IPL season will take place at the recently constructed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali, rather than the PCA IS Bindra Stadium.
In the past couple of years, the Mullanpur stadium has been the site for domestic matches. It features modern amenities and top-notch infrastructure, accommodating up to 33,000 spectators.
Moreover, the stadium is equipped with a sophisticated herringbone drainage system, facilitating water removal within 25-30 minutes post-rain.
Instead of conventional soil, the stadium's field is composed of sand, which is challenging to maintain but offers excellent stability.
The venue boasts two international-grade dressing rooms with steam, sauna, and ice bath facilities, alongside a world-class gym within its premises.
The inauguration of the stadium will coincide with Punjab Kings commencing their campaign against the Delhi Capitals on March 23.
Earlier the franchise home ground was the Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 27,000. Since the IPL's inception in 2008, the franchise had been hosting its home matches there.
Coming to IPL, the T20 extravaganza is scheduled to begin on March 22 at Chennai's Chepauk Stadium, where the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings will play their southern rivals, the Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB).
