assembly elections came to a close on Tuesday, the emergence of rebel candidates poses a significant challenge for the two major political alliances in the state.
The Mahayuti alliance has flagged 80 rebels, while nearly 150 politicians across various parties have submitted nominations that oppose their official candidates.
With the deadline for withdrawal set for November 4, both alliances have about a week to address these issues and persuade the rebels to withdraw.
Both the MVA and Mahayuti stated they have candidates lined up for all 288 assembly seats. Following the nomination period, the MVA reported 286 candidates, including 103 from Congress, 96 from Sena-UBT, and 87 from the NCP, which allocated seats to smaller allied parties.
Meanwhile, Mahayuti listed 284 candidates, comprising 80 from BJP and 52 from NCP, along with its smaller allies. However, Mahayuti’s list indicates it has nominated two candidates in five constituencies and none in two others, totaling 289 candidates.
