The Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSSC) was announced in Union Budget 2023 on March 31, 2023. It is a small savings scheme for women and girls in India. The scheme was launched to commemorate the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The scheme was valid for a two-year period till March 31, 2025.
The scheme offers an interest rate of 7.5% per annum, which is higher than the interest rate currently offered by banks offering fixed deposits on a two year tenure.
The Mahila Samman Savings Certificate is a government-backed small savings scheme introduced specifically for women and girls. It offers a safe investment option with assured returns and encourages financial inclusion among women.
Any woman or girl can open an MSSC account in her name. A guardian can open the account on behalf of a minor girl.
