Ranveer Singh is all set to play the lead role in the highly-anticipated third instalment of film-maker Farhan Akhtar's 'Don'. In May, social media was abuzz with reports that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan would not be reprising his role in 'Don 3', causing quite a stir among fans. With the exit of the 'Swades' actor, the team at Excel Entertainment reached a final decision and picked Singh to step into SRK's shoes and carry on the legacy of 'Don'.
While there has been no official announcement on the development, reports suggest that the makers will make the announcement this week. According to Delhi Times reports, the makers will make an official announcement on Singh's birthday on July 6 (Thursday). The 'Padmavat' star — who has been a part of a few successful Excel Entertainment projects like 'Gully Boy' and 'Dil Dhadakne Do' — has been the production banner's favourite choice.
The reports suggested that the promotional video showcasing the new 'Don' was already filmed in May. Reportedly, SRK has given a green signal to Excel's choice for the new 'Don'. Earlier in May, producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the development of the long-awaited action thriller, with producer-director-actor Akhtar currently busy writing the movie's script.
The first instalment of 'Don', featuring SRK and Priyanka Chopra, hit the screens in 2006, while the second part was released in 2011. Both films were directed by Akhtar. Meanwhile, it is also anticipated that both the new and original 'Don' will make cameo appearances in SRK's son Aryan Khan's debut directorial series 'Stardom', which was announced in December 2022.
