Panic gripped the busy and densely populated Naka area on the first morning of the new year as police arrived at the small Hotel Sharanjeet, where Arshad had booked room 109. Inside, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of his mother, Aasma (45), and his four younger sisters—Aalia (9), Aaksha (16), Rehmeen (18), and Aalsiya (19).
Arshad recorded a video showing the bodies and explaining his reasons for the murders, blaming neighbors for the harassment that drove him to commit the crime.
Lucknow’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central, Raveena Tyagi, confirmed that Arshad and his father were the prime suspects. “Arshad has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway. Teams are scanning CCTV footage to locate his father, who is still at large,” she said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Arshad and his father strangled the victims, and injuries suggested the women were sedated before being killed. Their wrists had also been slit. According to hotel staff, the family was last seen outside their room around 1 a.m.
