Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) conducted a security check following the receipt of an email claiming the presence of explosives on a plane at the airport, according to the authorities. The city police revealed that Mangaluru was one of several airports across the country that received similar emails on Tuesday night, all purportedly sent by a terrorist group named 'Funing'.
The email, sent from the address 'xonocikonoci10@beeble.com', stated: «There are explosives inside of one of your planes.
But also inside of your airport. The explosives are well hidden, and they will go off in a few hours.
I will kill you all. WE ARE A TERRORIST GROUP CALLED; 'Funing'».
Upon discovering the email at 11:20 am on Wednesday, the airport authorities promptly informed the city police, who conducted a thorough search of the airport premises.
City Police Commissioner, Anupam Agarwal, stated that additional check posts were set up to enhance security outside the airport. Furthermore, an anti-sabotage check and a bomb detection and disposal squad check were conducted.
The Bajpe police inspector also held a meeting with the airport authorities.
