militants killed four villagers, including a father and his son, in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
A police official in Imphal said that the four villagers from Akasoi village in Bishnupur district who went to nearby forested areas of Churachandpur district on Wednesday to collect firewood, were first kidnapped by the militants and then killed.
The bodies of the victims were recovered on Thursday by the police team from Kumbi in Bishnupur district.
The four victims identified as Ibomcha Singh and his son Anand Singh Romen Singh (38) and Dara Singh (37).
A senior police officer who does not want to be named said, “Villagers saw the dead bodies in the social media network and informed the police who then recovered the bodies. The security forces are now conducting the search operations to nab the militants”.
On January 9, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said that there are chances of fresh attacks and mass combing operations are underway in and around Moreh to nab the armed men.
Biren said that the unified command and combined teams of security forces comprising Assam Rifles, BSF and state police commandos are jointly taking on the militants. “Militants have attacked state police and central forces.
It is our primary duty to protect the people and land of the state. The unified command, Assam Rifles, BSF and state forces are countering the attack of the militants.”
He added, “On Monday around 6.30 pm there was firing from the hill tops. It was retailed by joint forces.
