cancer diagnosis while devastating, can sometimes help you see life in a new perspective and helps you distinguish who are your true well-wishers and who are fairweather friends. In a recent interview, Bollywood diva Manisha Koirala reflected on her journey of surviving cancer and how the difficult diagnosis and her battle with terminal illness made her confront some rather uncomfortable truths.
In a candid chat with NDTV, the ‘Heeramandi’ star said, “It’s been a journey. It has also been a learning experience. I really believed that I had multiple friends. I thought partying together, travelling together, having fun together, people will sit with me in my pain. That was not so. People are not capable of sitting with anybody’s pain, let alone their own pain. We always try to find excuses to not feel pain. We want to escape pain. That’s human nature. The ‘Akele Hum, Akele Tum’ actress revealed that although her community — the Koirala clan was huge and influential in Nepal, almost nobody came to her aide, and the only people who offered unconditional support was her parents, her brother and his family. “ I realised that when everybody leaves me, these are the people who will be with me. Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012, and underwent treatment in New York.
