Marlon Wayans opens up about parenting journey as eldest child transitions
Marlon Wayans, 51, disclosed on "The Breakfast Club" radio show this Friday that his eldest child identifies as transgender and prefers they/them pronouns.
«I have a daughter that transitioned into a son,» he began. «My daughter Amai is now Kai.»
Wayans expresses his intention to delve into his journey as a parent in an upcoming comedy special, addressing his shift from ignorance and denial to embracing complete unconditional love and acceptance.
«I think there's a lot of parents out there who need to have that message, and I know I'm dealing with it.
Initially, the transition of his 23-year-old son was a source of pain for the „Scary Movie“ star, but Marlon Wayans sees the humor in the situation and is contemplating titles like „Skittles“ and „Rainbow Child“ for his upcoming comedy special.
Despite occasional slips in using correct pronouns, Wayans acknowledges that he may not be a perfect parent but emphasizes his efforts to respect his eldest child's wishes and ensure their happiness.
»I just want my kids to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves.
The more you know yourself, the more you can govern yourself; the more you live your truth, the happier your existence," he declared. «So, if they can’t get that in the household with their father and their mother, who do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence?»
