Match Day 2025: What does the term mean for medical students?
Match Day marks a significant moment. Match Day comes at the end of Match Week, which began on Monday, March 17. The week ends on Friday with Match Day, which comes on March 21 this year. It is on this day when final year medical students receive an email notifying them whether or not they have been accepted into a residency.
What is Match Week and Match Day?
For those who opened a congratulatory email notifying them, «You have matched», the wait continued until March 21 this year, when the National Resident Matching Program announced where they were placed.
On the other side of the celebrations, those who did not match at all have spent this week processing and brainstorming ways to find work in the next few months.
Match Day is a crucial day for final-year medical students. It is on this day they find out if they have been accepted to start a residency program. While for some it can be a day of celebration, for others it can be a long day with overwhelming feelings.
