Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) was arrested in Assam’s Dhubri district on Saturday. ABT is an affiliate of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “A member of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) module, Abdus Sukur Ali, son of Akbar Ali, from Takimari near the Bangladesh border, was apprehended early this morning from a remote area called Nayeralga under Bilasipara Police Station by a team led by Dhubri Police. Currently, the police are interrogating the individual extensively.” Earlier Assam police has busted 9 Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) modules and arrested over 53 operatives of ABT and found their presence in Madrassa.
Former Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had stated, “in Assam, when Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) modules were busted, we found they tried to radicalise through madrassas. We looked into madrassas who were conspicuous in their behaviour.
So that there is no misuse of madrassa, we met the Islamic scholars and we wanted their opinion. We give them certain suggestions like opening a board and police verification of teachers.”
