This development comes in response to a recent ruling by the EU's Court of Justice, mandating that Meta obtain user consent before delivering personalized ads. Users will have two subscription tiers to choose from. For ad-free desktop access, the cost will be 10 euros (approximately $10.60) per month. If users prefer ad-free mobile access, the subscription will be priced at 13 euros (about $13.78) per month. Notably, these subscription fees will cover all accounts under a single user's profile until March. After that, additional fees will be implemented for web access (6 euros) and mobile access (8 euros) for extra accounts.
To be eligible for this subscription service, users must be 18 years or older. Meta is also considering ways to ensure a responsible ad experience for teenagers amid evolving regulatory requirements.
