The hires were part of the firm's push to enhance its research capabilities. Owainati and Patel will report directly to chief investment officer Patrick Farrell.
Owainati previously worked as a macro strategist for the BT Pension Scheme Management, known as Brightwell, and as a macro strategist and economist at Quilter Investors.
Patel joined from Quintet Private Bank, where he was a senior equity analyst and strategy lead for US equities. Prior to that, he was a senior equity analyst at Talisman Global Asset Management and held analyst roles at Quilter Cheviot and Janus Henderson.
