militants killed four villagers, including a father and his son, in Manipur's Churachandpur district, police said on Thursday. They were missing since Wednesday.
A police official in Imphal said that the four villagers from Akasoi village in Bishnupur district had gone to a nearby forested area of Churachandpur district on Wednesday to collect firewood. They were «first kidnapped by militants and then killed».
The victims were identified as Ibomcha Singh, his son Anand, Romen Singh and Dara Singh.
A senior police officer said: «Villagers saw pictures of the dead bodies on social media and informed the police, who then recovered the bodies.
Security forces are now conducting search operations to nab the militants.»
Heavy gunfight between suspected militants and state forces continued on the second day in the border town of Moreh, which is is just 4 km to the west of Myanmar's largest border town Tamu.
Security advisor to the Manipur government, Kuldiep Singh, said: «In Moreh, a lot of village volunteers and militants are there who are trying to evict commandos from there.
Time and again they have been told that state forces cannot be asked to evict from any place. State forces will act wherever they want in Manipur and wherever the Manipur government sends them.»
