under-construction railway bridge collapsed on Wednesday, the death toll has reached 23.
Mizoram minister for home and disaster management Lalchamliana stated in X, “The rescue teams have just located and found the last body at the accident site at the under construction railway bridge, Sairang. Kuddos to the rescue mission teams #DM&R QRT #SDRF #NDRF etc”
On Wednesday around 18 bodies were recovered.
On Thursday another four bodies were recovered. Three workers were injured.
Various disaster response personnel continued their search operation for the second day on Friday.
The Ministry of Railways has constituted a four-member high-level committee to inquire into the cause of the collapse of an under construction railway bridge in Mizoram's Aizawl district.
The committee will submit its report within one month from the date of formation, according to the order issued by the Railways ministry on Thursday.
Sources in railways said the steel structure had suddenly toppled off towering columns into the forested valley below.
The railway bridge under the 51.38-km railway project was under construction over the Kurung river to connect Bairabi (near southern Assam) to Sairang.
A high-level committee has been constituted by the Railway Ministry to probe the incident.
