Mollywood actress Kanakalatha passed away on Monday. She was 63. The Malayalam industry took her last breath at her residence in Thiruvananthapuram. According to a Times Of India report, the actress has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease and dementia since 2021.

According to a Kerala Kaumudi report, the actress experienced some financial troubles in her last years. Her income was exhausted during the lockdown, making it difficult for her to pay back her loan.
In a career spanning almost four decades, Kanakalatha acted in over 360 movies. Before making her cinematic debut in the 1979 Malayalam movie ‘Radha Enna Pennkutti’, she was an established name in the theatre circuit. She rose to fame through the 1981 movie ‘Aparna’. Some of her most notable works include, ‘Chillu’, ‘Jagratha’, ‘Kireedam’, ‘Spadikam’ etc.
‘Aadujeevitham’ star Prithviraj Sukumaran, who shared screen space with her in the 2006 movie ‘Pakal’ took to Instagram to mourn her. Sharing her picture, he added a ‘Rest In Piece’ caption.
According to Kerala Kaumudi, she was divorced. She does not have any children. She leaves behind a sister called Vijayamma, who has been with her for 34 years.
Kanakalatha lived at Malayinkeezhu. She bought the house after having lived in a rented home at Valiyavila for a few years.
