
Nagpur violence: CM Fadnavis appeals for peace, cautions against rumours amid clashes over Aurangzeb row
Nagpur on Monday evening following rumours that the holy book of the Muslim community had been burnt during an agitation by a right-wing group demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. Amid the tense situation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called for peace and urged people not to believe in rumours.
Police and Protesters Clash
As per the latest updates, several more people were injured after clashes erupted between protesters and the police. Officials said the police responded by using tear gas shells and cane-charging to control the situation.
CM Fadnavis’ Appeal for Calm
Addressing the situation, CM Fadnavis assured that the police are handling the matter and managing the tensions in the Mahal area.
«Police are managing the situation following stone pelting and tense situation in the Mahal area,» he said in a statement.
He also urged citizens to support the administration in maintaining law and order.

Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, stated that he is in constant touch with the police to ensure the situation is under control.
«Nagpur is a peaceful city where people share in each other's joys and sorrows, which has always been Nagpur's tradition. Do not believe any rumours,» he added.
Authorities have deployed a large police force in the affected areas to prevent any further escalation.
