Tyla Abercrumbie (The Chi) and Diany Rodriguez (The Blacklist) have joined the main cast of NCIS: Origins, CBS’ prequel to the long-running procedural NCIS. The series, set to air in the 2024-2025 broadcast season, is produced by CBS Studios and executive produced by Mark Harmon, a Deadline report said.
Cast
Abercrumbie and Rodriguez join previously announced stars Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid. Abercrumbie will portray Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo, a pivotal figure in the NIS Camp Pendleton office. Rodriguez will play Special Agent Vera Strickland, a tough and outspoken Brooklyn native.
Storyline
Set in 1991 before the events of NCIS, Origins follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Stowell) at the beginning of his career as a special agent. He joins a team at the NIS Camp Pendleton office led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Schmid).
Characters
Abercrumbie's Mary Jo is described as the «Head Secretary in Charge,» a witty and knowledgeable figure in the office. Rodriguez's Strickland is portrayed as a no-nonsense agent who has faced challenges from misogynistic colleagues throughout her career.
Production Mark Harmon and his son Sean Harmon serve as executive producers, with David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal co-writing and co-showrunning the series. Jason Kennedy is the casting director.
