NIT student on social media.
The NIT authorities declared winter vacations from November 30 and directed all the hostel boarders «to vacate the hostels with immediate effect.» The main entrance of the NIT was manned by the police force to disallow any movement in and out of the college, except the vehicles transporting students to airport or bus stations.
The J&K police has already registered a case against one non-local NIT student under sections 295A (malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 153 and 153A (vilification of the founders and prophets of a religion) of the Indian Penal Code for uploading «sensitive content against religious sentiments of a particular community.»
The J&K administration said that «due to the early onset of winter, students enrolled in government degree colleges of Kashmir division are facing major challenges in commuting to colleges and, thereby, attending classes.»
«In order to ensure unhindered academic delivery in adverse and extreme cold conditions, it is impressed upon all the principals of government degree colleges of Kashmir division that classes will be conducted via online mode w.e.f.
December-01-2023 till December-31-2023 or till winter vacations are announced, whichever is earlier,» read the official order.
