eco-tourism flop show: PWD minister Brijesh Singh arrived for a grand event at Okhla's wetland sanctuary hoping for a glorious avian spectacle — only to find no bird in sight. Not one.
But Singh, undeterred by this feathery no-show, soldiered on with his speech, praising eco-tourism and all its (imaginary) wonders.
Meanwhile, real eco-enthusiasts spoke about the sanctuary's gross mismanagement, hinting that even the birds have wised up. The poor things show up, see the barren, cracked landscape, and probably hold a quick emergency meeting — a parliament, if owls: 'Rightio, we're off somewhere with actual water!' The stats tell the sad tale.
In 2024, only 32 species and 3,380 birds turned up, compared to 62 species and 8,776 birds in 2020. But fear not! The place has 'potential'.
If by 'eco-tourism', you mean a politician's dream park, then feathers are optional, revenue mandatory. Btw, did you notice that we're The Eco-Nomic Times?
