Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" is making a comeback on Imax screens near you for a one-week encore presentation.
Starting Friday, the blockbuster historical drama will return on the big(gest) screen, including six Imax 70mm film locations across US, United Kingdom and Australia.
Reemerging during a tranquil phase for the box office, at a time of no major releases over the weekend, «Oppenheimer» is expected to reclaim much of the Imax spotlight. Disney's superhero spectacle "The Marvels," is likely to dominate Imax theaters upon its release on November 10.
Starring Cillian Murphy as the renowned «father of the atomic bomb,» «Oppenheimer» amassed a staggering $946 million globally, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of the year and the second-highest-grossing R-rated film in cinematic history.
During the press tour last summer, Nolan championed the use of Imax cameras, leading ardent fans to journey across state lines in pursuit of the optimal viewing experience.
Consequently, «Oppenheimer» garnered $183 million from Imax screenings, securing its position as the fourth-highest-grossing Imax release of all time. The film also propelled Imax to its most lucrative summer ever in 54 countries, including the US and China.
Reviving «Oppenheimer» in Imax format is no small feat.
