Opposite to Pakistan’s national government approach of not holding “meaningful dialogue” with the banned Pakistani Taliban, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has called for negotiations with the terrorist group to maintain lasting peace in the restive area.
After the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) called off its ceasefire in November 2022, mostly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan has been hit by a wave of terrorism. Terrorist activities have also spread in Balochistan and Punjab, which borders the province. Terror raids have also reached as far as Islamabad and Karachi.
On Monday, addressing a press conference, Gandapur said dialogues with the militants are critical for ensuring peace in the region and a feasible approach at the national level should be evolved to halt further damage to the area.
CM fully supports meaningful dialogue!
“We fully support meaningful dialogue with the militant organization to improve the law and order situation in the province,” he said, reported PTI.
Official talks were held with the TTP leadership when Imran Khan was in power. Many representatives from Pakistan visited Kabul for discussions. However, all actions stayed inconclusive.
After the government change in Islamabad in 2022, the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif suspended the dialogue process with TTP and chose to go for military operations against the terrorists.
