Respiratory illness activity in the US is currently classified as ‘high’ in accordance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reported ABC News.

According to ABC News, New Hampshire is actually experiencing ‘very high’ activity while approximately 11 states which include Texas and Georgia reported ‘high’ levels. The increase in respiratory illnesses which includes COVID-19, seasonal flu and RSV has eventually led to more emergency department visits and higher positivity rates for tests.
As of the month of December, the CDC has estimated that there have been at least 3.1 million flu-related illnesses, 37,000 hospitalizations and 1,500 deaths this season, asserted ABC News. Adding onto that, the pediatric deaths from flu have also risen to nine while the CDC have issued several warnings that COVID-19 cases are actually expected to rise in the coming weeks as the winter progresses.
In such times, vaccination rates remain low with only 41.9% of adults vaccinated against the flu and just 21.4% receiving the updated COVID-19 vaccine, noted ABC News. On the other hand, RSV vaccines are available for certain adult groups but are not widely administered.
The CDC also emphasized on the importance of vaccinations to protect against these dangerous respiratory viruses.
