China has sparked strong backlash on social media due to its unusual policy of charging guests for an additional shower or bath. The policy came to light when a Chinese woman staying at the hotel discovered a sign announcing the extra charge, leaving her surprised. The hotel charges a hefty 2500 yuan (approximately Rs 28,850) per night, according to reports.
The woman later shared the photograph of the sign on social media which quickly gained attention online, leading to widespread criticism of the hotel's policy. However, the hotel defended its policy. A hotel staff member explained that the policy was implemented to manage water consumption by guests and ensure a consistent water supply, especially during the summer season.
Although the sign had been displayed for about a month, no fines had been imposed as of yet, the staff added. Netizens took to social media to express their opinions, with many raising questions and concerns about the unique fee. One user humorously questioned how the policy would apply if two people were staying in a room, while another user asked whether the hotel would charge for air conditioning usage as well.
This incident is just one example of unconventional policies adopted by establishments that have triggered controversies. Earlier this year, a family in Italy was surprised to receive a bill for dividing a cake into 20 pieces at a restaurant in Palermo, Sicily. Such incidents continue to highlight the interactions between businesses and customers, often leading to discussions about transparency and fairness in charges.
