Vistara, after canceling approximately 50 flights the previous day, is anticipated to cancel around 60 flights on Tuesday, according to sources cited by The Times of India.
As per PTI sources more flights are expected to be cancelled on Tuesday and the number could go up to 70.
To address the continuous flight disruptions caused by a shortage of pilots, the airline has introduced measures to mitigate the situation. These measures entail scaling down flight operations and deploying wide-body aircraft on domestic routes to assist stranded passengers.
On Monday, Vistara was forced to cut a number of flights as it was dealing with a shortage of pilots and crew.
«We have had a significant number of flight cancellations and delays in the past few days due to various reasons including crew unavailability,» a company spokesperson said in a statement.
The Tata Group and Singapore Airlines owned Vistara is using larger aircraft, including the wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliner on certain domestic routes «to accommodate more passengers, wherever possible,» the spokesperson said.
The airline, which will be merged with Tata-owned Air India, faced similar disruptions last month.
Sources from ET revealed that first officers at Vistara, discontented with the terms of their new employment contract, have been calling in sick in considerable numbers over the past two days.
As a result, numerous Vistara flights experienced delays, necessitating the airline to reschedule them for nighttime operations. Compliance with DGCA
