President Droupadi Murmu appointed Narendra Modi as next Prime Minister after a delegation of leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) submitted letters of support in his favour on Friday.

The alliance earlier unanimously chose him for the posts of PM, head of NDA and leader of the house in the Lok Sabha through a resolution passed at the parliamentary party meeting.
In a press communique, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said, «The President, having satisfied herself on the basis of various letters of support received, that the BJP-led NDA, which is also the largest pre-election alliance, is in a position to command majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed Shri Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India, exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution.»
She also sought his suggestion for a suitable date for the swearing-in ceremony, which has now officially been scheduled for 7:15 pm on June 9. The new government is expected to call a Parliament session within a fortnight of the ceremony.
