Rachin Ravindra has been one of the biggest finds of the World Cup. Not only did he played a big role in New Zealand's journey to the semis but also broke Sachin Tendulkar' record of being the youngest to score 500 runs in a single edition of a World Cup. When he was breaking into international cricket, he was also famous for this first name «Rachin».
It was popularly believed that he was named after Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar a- mix of names of Rahul (Ra) Dravid and Sachin (Chin) Tendulkar.
But his father said years later they reallsed that it was just a coincidence. Speaking to The Print, Rachin's father Ravi Krishnamurthy said: “When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it.
It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort.”
Rachin's father Ravi Krishnamurthy himself played cricket in the Bangalore circuit before migrating to New Zealand. Before bursting into the international cricket, Rachin Ravindra had also played for the New Zealand under-19 side.
Speaking before Wednesday's semi-final clash with India, Rachin Ravindra, who is among the leading scorers of the tournament with three centuries to his name, said: We will stay level, we'll try our best."
Ravindra's grandparents reside in Bengaluru and he went to their house to seek their blessings. For India, it will be their fourth semifinal appearance in fourth successive World Cup. However, it is to be noted that India had lost to New Zealand in the semis of the previous World Cup in England
