RailTel Corporation of India slumped 7.7% on Tuesday to Rs 336.10 on the BSE after the company reported a sequential decline in its December quarter earnings. The telecom infrastructure provider posted a 10% drop in net profit quarter-over-quarter to Rs 65 crore, down from Rs 73 crore in the September quarter. Revenue also fell 9% sequentially, standing at Rs 768 crore in the third quarter.
On a year-on-year basis, RailTel reported a 5% increase in net profit, up from Rs 62 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. Revenue from operations saw a 15% growth compared to Rs 668 crore reported in the same period a year ago.
The company’s telecom services revenue remained steady at Rs 338 crore in Q3FY25, reflecting an uptick compared to Rs 329 crore in Q3FY24. However, revenue from project work services—a key vertical—declined to Rs 430 crore in the December quarter from Rs 505 crore in the preceding quarter. On a yearly basis, project work revenue rose from Rs 340 crore in Q3FY24.
RailTel earned Rs 15 crore as other income during the quarter, bringing its total income to Rs 782 crore. This was lower than the Rs 19 crore in other income reported in Q2FY25 but higher than Rs 6.5 crore in Q3FY24.
Expenses for the quarter stood at Rs 690 crore, a reduction from Rs 755 crore in the September quarter but an increase from Rs 580 crore in the year-ago period.
