Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency Rajen Gohain has resigned from chairmanship Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited alleging that the recent delimitation exercise of assemblies and parliamentary constituencies has rendered Nagaon seat un winnable for BJP candidate in the future also putting the people of Nagaon under threat because of the demography change. Gohain who handed over the resignation letter to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also gave up the cabinet rank.
He was accorded cabinet rank in Assam. He told media persons that the delimitation exercise has ensured that Nagaon parliamentary seat will go to the All India United Democratic Front President Badruddin Ajmal.
This seat has been BJP’s bastion for several decades. Several areas from Nagaon are taken out and clubbed with newly created Lok Sabha constituency Kaziranga.
In his resignation letter he stated, “ I have been a good advocate of our party and its ideology for more than two decades and always supported and nurtured it with full capacity but the recent delimitation process has rendered the 10-Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency un winnable for BJP candidate in the future also putting the people of Nagaon under threat because of the demography change.” He said, “ Despite having numerous rounds of discussion with you I am afraid that my concerns and my deep dissatisfaction with the way the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency has been constituted did not bring a change whatsoever. I have also apprised the Union Home Minister Amit Shah of my concerns and during our meeting he asked me to give my recommendations on the matter in writing which I did the very next day but unfortunately it did not bring any positive outcome”.
