According to PTI, the investigation, initiated by a complaint filed by Ramalingam from Maddipadu in Prakasam district, has led to a manhunt across multiple states. Police teams have been dispatched to various locations, including Hyderabad, Chennai, and Coimbatore, as they try to locate the filmmaker. Despite repeated notices, Varma has not appeared for questioning, leaving authorities to believe he may be deliberately evading arrest.
On November 11, the Maddipadu police registered a case against Varma under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to defamation and the Information Technology Act. The posts in question were allegedly published during the promotion of his film Vyuham, which some claim contained politically motivated content aimed at discrediting members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Varma has since made claims that the posts were not intended to cause harm and that his actions were within legal bounds.
Despite being served two notices to appear before the authorities by November 24, Varma missed both scheduled meetings. The police have been unable to reach him directly as his phone remains switched off, and reports suggest he may be in Coimbatore for a film shoot. His legal team, however, insists that Varma is willing to cooperate with the investigation through «digital mode» due to the advent of digital policing in India.
