consecration ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, religious organisations like VHP, RSS, and their allies are distributing the worshipped 'akshat' to devotees. The distribution which was started on New Year's Day, involves rice grains mixed with turmeric and ghee, is considered sacred in Hindu rituals.
General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Champat Rai emphasized that, while receiving 'akshat,' people will be requested to gather at local temples, turning the event into a festive celebration.
The distribution, organized by VHP, RSS, and their allies, aligns with the temple trust's role of guiding the temple's construction. He also urged people to celebrate the occasion nationwide as a festival.
What is Akshat?
Preceding the 'akshat' distribution, the ancient temple of 'Bhagwan Mathgendra Ji' echoed with chants of 'Sita Ram.' The distribution process includes a paper pouch containing 'akshat,' an image of the Ram Mandir, and a pamphlet detailing the temple's structure, bearing the trust's logo and a caption in Hindi – 'Under-construction Temple, Ayodhya.'
The distribution, led by a group of sadhus and young artistes portraying Lord Ram, aims to reach communities around nearly five lakh temples, touching around five crore people across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged people to light special 'diyas' in their homes on January 22, considering it akin to celebrating 'Diwali.'
The 'akshat' distribution, starting from Valmiki colony in Ayodhya, will continue until January 15, coinciding with the celebration of Makar Sankranti.
