Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, India's first Regional Rapid Transit System, will be operational from October 21, according to officials. The priority section, spanning from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Commuters traveling from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot station on this 17-km section will be charged Rs 50 for a one-way journey.
However, those opting for the premium-class coach will have to pay Rs 100.
The RRTS Corridor, known as 'RAPIDX', is being built by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) in collaboration with the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. It aims to provide a semi-high-speed regional rail service.
The media was given a preview of the RAPIDX trains ahead of the inauguration.
Passenger services will commence on October 21, running from 6 am to 11 pm. Initially, trains will be available every 15 minutes, with the possibility of increasing the frequency in the future. Each RAPIDX train will comprise six coaches, including a premium coach.
One coach will be reserved for women, located next to the premium coach. The seats in all coaches will be sequentially numbered. Additionally, there will be designated seats for women, specially-abled individuals, and senior citizens in the other coaches.
The premium coaches will have distinct features such as differently colored seats, the potential for future installation of vending machines, reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders, and footrests.
