“Friends, our indigenous games are now becoming a part of popular culture. You all must be knowing the famous rapper Hanumankind. His new song ‘Run It Up’ is becoming quite famous these days. Our traditional martial arts like Kalaripayattu, Gatka, and Thang-Ta have been included in it,” he said.
The Prime Minister further added, “I congratulate Hanumankind that due to his efforts, people of the world are getting to know about our traditional martial arts.”
‘Run It Up’ Showcases India’s Cultural Heritage
Hanumankind, whose real name is Sooraj Cherukat, has gained widespread recognition for blending Indian culture with contemporary hip-hop. ‘Run It Up,’ released on March 7, is his first solo track following the viral success of ‘Big Dawgs.’ The music video, directed by Bijoy Shetty and produced by Kalmi, is a visually rich tribute to India’s traditional arts and martial practices.
The video prominently features Kalaripayattu, often considered one of the oldest martial arts in the world, alongside Gatka, a Sikh martial art, and Thang-Ta, a combat form from Manipur. It also incorporates elements of Kerala’s Theyyam tradition and other folk performances. The track has been well-received, accumulating millions of views on streaming platforms.
