Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in the US on Sunday, December 15. The legendary musician had been hospitalized due to serious health concerns, with updates shared on social media.
Hussain was admitted to the ICU due to heart-related issues.

Ustad Zakir Hussain, a rhythmic genius who brought the soul of India to global stages, has left us. I was privileged to know him because of his connection with HMV and hear him perform at our home. His beats will echo eternally.»
Zakir Hussain, son of the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, was a prominent figure in both Indian and global music. He began his tabla training at the age of seven and was already performing across India by the age of 12. Over the years, he made extraordinary contributions to Indian classical music and world music alike.
