The big partnership with Saul came after India removed Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq in back-to-back overs. Pakistan were struggling at 47 for 2 when Rizwan joined Saud Shakeel to rebuild the innings.
Saud Shakeel also reached his fifty, and together, the pair provided much-needed stability for Pakistan.
India’s breakthrough came when Hardik Pandya dismissed Babar Azam, who had looked dangerous after smashing five quick boundaries. Babar edged an away-going delivery and was caught behind for 23 off 26 balls, without hitting a six.
Axar Patel struck soon after with a pinpoint direct hit from mid-on, running out Imam-ul-Haq for 10 off 26 deliveries. Imam stepped out but was caught short by Axar’s sharp throw, despite a desperate dive.
After these setbacks, Rizwan and Saud focused on steadying the innings, though runs were hard to come by. Pakistan managed just one boundary in 32 deliveries, and by the 20th over, they had already endured a 79-ball stretch without scoring a run.
