Zorawar Kalra, founder of Massive Restaurants, which runs restaurant brands such as Farzi Cafe, Bo Tai and Swan, said he saw a 50-60% increase in sales across locations compared with a regular Sunday. «There was a marked improvement in reservations and non-prime time sales,» he said, adding that the company's fine-dining restaurant Swan, where it had put up large screens for the match, «was completely packed post 2:30 pm».
Bars and restaurants had organised live screenings, consumer promotions and curated offers such as beer bucket deals and watch parties in anticipation of heavy turnouts on Sunday. The match day has been crucial to revive interest in an otherwise average Champions Trophy cricket tournament, executives at media buying firms said.
«The India-Pakistan game saw a surge in footfalls at Social (a cafe-cum-bar)...strong group bookings and an uptick in business revenues as compared to a normal Sunday, from early on in the day,» said Divya Aggarwal, chief growth officer at Impresario Entertainment and Hospitality.
