Kanpur's government office, a contractual class IV employee sold official documents to a scrap dealer to fund his alcohol habit. As per a TOI report, the accused, Mohan, found himself in hot water when some important pension documents were found missing.
The matter came to light when an employee from the Non-Conventional Energy Development Agency alerted that Mohan discreetly placing several files into a sack regularly and sell it to a scrap dealer.
When inquired, Mohan confressed that he had been regularly selling these government files at a nearby scrap shop to finance his alcohol purchases, and this had been an ongoing practice.
During a subsequent search, officials discovered that records related to old age pension documents, spanning a six-year period, were missing. Troublingly, these records included data from 2017 to 2022.
However, the records for the year 2023 were recovered from the scrap dealer's shop.
Deepak Jaiswal, the scrap dealer, cooperated with investigators and revealed that Mohan had been delivering a sack full of documents to him daily for the past three months for Rs 60. Jaiswal expressed his ignorance about the source of these documents, stating, «I did not know where he used to bring this from.» He further mentioned that all the scrap was sold to a wholesaler located in Beconganj.
Taking swift action, Chief Development Officer (CDO) Sudhir Kumar filed a case against the accused employee and terminated his employment.
