Manipur, the government has reached out to Opposition with a truce plan to end logjam in Parliament.Piyush Goyal and Pralhad Joshi are meeting opposition leaders in Mallikarjun Kharge's chamber. The Opposition have been demanding a full fledged discussion on the Manipur issue in Rajya Sabha. On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha had brief sessions.
Upon convening at 11 am, it faced disruption and adjourned within approximately 15 minutes. The House later reassembled at 2 pm only to adjourn for the entire day in under five minutes. The Rajya Sabha proceeded with its proceedings despite the absence of the Opposition, which had walked out.
The Opposition had staged a walk-out after their requests for discussions regarding Manipur were dismissed. The Rajya Sabha also adjourned other business during this time. In contrast, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla indicated his displeasure over disruptions in the House and stopped chairing the proceedings, until members 'could behave in accordance with the dignity of the House'.
The day's agenda included a discussion on the controversial Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. This bill aims to transfer control of Services in Delhi from the Delhi Government to the Central Government. Opposition parties have been protesting in the Lok Sabha, raising slogans and displaying placards, over their demands relating to the debate on the Manipur situation.
They have also been pressing that the House takes up the motion of no-confidence against the government. The House has witnessed repeated adjournments since the start of the monsoon session of Parliament on July 20. The House faced another adjournment during Question Hour on Thursday over demands of opposition parties
