RuPaul’s Drag Race star The Vivienne died from ketamine-induced cardiac arrest, family confirms
cardiac arrest caused by the effects of ketamine. James Lee Williams, who went by the stage name The Vivienne, aged 32, was found unresponsive in the bathroom of their home near Chester on January 5.
A post-mortem determined the cause of James’ cause of death as unnatural, and an inquest into the circumstances is scheduled for June 30.
According to media reports, their manager and friend Simon Jones in a statement said that James’ family felt it was crucial to inform them how The Vivienne tragically passed away. Jones said that they hope that by releasing this information, they can raise awareness about the dangers of ongoing ketamine use and what it can do to one’s body.
A champion for LGBTQIA+ representation
The reports stated that The Vivienne became famous after winning the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2019. They competed in RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 and went on to the finals of Dancing On Ice in 2023.
