“BRICS is not targeted against anyone…it offers alternative instruments, which are supposed to be safe from the politicised Western architecture, including in the context of de-dollarisation.
Importantly, all that does not make BRICS anti-Western, rather non-Western,” according to Roman Babushkin, Russian Deputy Ambassador to India.
Russia is exploring a category of BRICS partners besides ensuring smooth entry of five new BRICS members – Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Iran and Ethiopia, according to Babushkin.
The senior diplomat was addressing a select gathering here outlining priorities of Russia’s BRICS Presidency.
Among other key priorities for BRICS Russia wants to focus on enhancing coordination at multilateral fora to counter terror and money laundering in what would be a shot in the arm for India. Around 200 events at various levels are scheduled by the Russian Presidency in the run up to the Summit in the Russian city of Kazan in October, Babushkin informed.
Considerable focus will be devoted to intra BRICS trade and cooperation in the technology sector, the senior diplomat pointed out.
Russia will also push for BRICS Bank (New Development Bank) support for the International North South Transportation Corridor project. INSTC links Russia with India via Iran and a key connectivity initiative in Eurasia.
Earlier this year Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the commitment to advancing global development and security through the BRICS theme “Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security.”
