NCP-SP's Rohit Pawar said that the arrest was meant to «divert the issue». «The Saif Ali Khan attack issue is being diverted to another issue. The Opposition was saying that if politicians and actors are not safe, then what about the common man. Now the police has taken a different stand to hide its own failures. The issue is being diverted to Bangladesh now because of the Mumbai civic elections being close,» said Rohit.
Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar came in support of the police and state machinery and said, «Some people have said that Mumbai law and order has collapsed (after the Saif incident). This (burglary) should not have happened (at all) and I am not supporting the burglar, but the police did good work and caught him in Thane.»
Meanwhile, state minister Nitesh Rane said BJP will not tolerate any Bangladeshi infiltrators in the country.
