As Chinese cities compete to draw international superstars, officials are hopeful the event could help stimulate the local economy, reported the South China Morning Post.
Zhang Qi, deputy director of the Shanghai Culture and Tourism Bureau, confirmed that city officials had already met with Swift’s team to explore the opportunity.
«As for whether it will ultimately happen, it depends on the market and the attractiveness of our city. However, we are optimistic and think that there may be hope for this year,» Zhang said in a statement to local media outlet The Paper.
This move is part of a broader strategy by Chinese cities to attract high-profile entertainers and revitalise the economy through large-scale cultural events. Shanghai, a key hub for global performances, has become the primary destination for international artists visiting mainland China.
