medical negligence, a doctor in Uttar Pradesh reportedly removed a female patients uterus instead of gallbladder. As per a ToI report, Usha Maurya's ordeal, now 26 years old and a resident of Bela village in Varanasi's Cholapur block, started during the first Covid lockdown in May 2020. Troubled by a recurring sharp pain in her abdomen, she sought help from an ASHA worker in her village.
Subsequently, she was taken to a private nursing home in Gola. Following diagnostic tests, Usha was diagnosed with gall bladder stones, and on May 28, 2020, she underwent a gall bladder removal surgery at the doctor's clinic. Initially relieved, she thought the chapter was behind her.
However, fast forward to March 2023, and the dreaded pain returned. Taking a digestive tablet and using a hot water bag brought no respite as the pain persisted. Usha sought medical attention again, this time at another private nursing home in Baniyapur.
To her shock, a thorough examination revealed that her gall bladder still contained stones, but her uterus was missing. Perplexed and distressed, Usha confronted the doctor with the test reports, demanding an explanation. Allegedly, the doctor responded with threats, intensifying the gravity of the situation.
After several attempts at seeking help from various police stations, Usha finally approached a local court, resulting in the filing of a case against the accused doctor on July 25. Rajesh Tripathi, the station officer at Cholapur, told ToI, «Following the court order, we have booked the doctor and have begun our investigation.
