The government, he told mediapersons on Sunday, was opening a helpline at the offices of deputy commissioners (DC) for the affected people to file their complaints. The government will take immediate action on them, he told media persons on Sunday.
The CM’s statement follows the government’s decision to promulgate an ordinance to safeguard the rights of borrowers and prevent their harassment by lending firms. The tough decision comes after reports of suicides and people fleeing their villages under threat from lending agents emerged.
The government would not allow forced recoveries without court approval and scrutinize cases of lending practices beyond the borrowers’ repayment capacity, he said. The new law, he added, would enable police to register suo moto complaints if they come across instances of harassment.
