These companies are weighing the pros and cons of various mechanisms for taking parental consent before processing children’s data with no clear winner emerging, senior executives of these companies told ET, adding that they need a separate consultation on the mechanics and brass tacks of verifiable parental consent.
Under the draft Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules released on January 3, companies require consent from parents that is verifiable before processing their children’s data.
Regulations intended to curb Big Tech or conglomerates end up unintentionally entrenching them, one of the executives said.
