South Delhi man paid ₹16,680 for a phone, got a biscuit instead: Online scam unfolds
How the Fraud Unfolded
The victim, who works at a local college, placed an order for a mobile phone worth Rs 16,680 on 11 February. Opting for the cash-on-delivery option, he expected a hassle-free purchase.
On 12 February, he received a call from a man claiming to be the delivery agent. The caller asked if he could deliver the package that day, but the buyer requested a delay until the next morning.
«I told him to deliver the product the next day, as I was going to be at home. The next day, he called me thrice around 11 am and handed over a mobile phone box in the shopping website's packaging with the same product details as I ordered,» the complainant said.
Trusting the transaction, he made a UPI payment of Rs 16,680. It wasn’t until he reached his office and unboxed the package that he realised he had been cheated.
