Jaya Bachchan, former chief secretary of UP, Alok Ranjan, and former MP and close aide of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ram ji Lal Suman, are the Samajwadi Party's nominations for UP for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.
The three candidates filed their nomination papers on Tuesday in Lucknow in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav and others.
SP has 108 members in the assembly and can send three members to the RS, with ally Congress also having two MLAs.
This will be Bachchan's fifth term as an RS member representing SP. Ranjan, a 1978 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, was the chief secretary of UP during Yadav's stint as CM and when he retired in 2016, he was appointed by Yadav as his chief advisor as well as chairman of the UP State Industrial Development Corporation. He was relieved of his charges when CM Yogi Adityanath took over in 2017. Ranjan had drafted the SP manifesto for UP assembly elections of 2022 and is known to be a trusted aide of Akhilesh.
Ram ji Lal Suman (73) is a former MP and union minister.
