Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Election Results 2024: Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) candidate Omar Abdullah is trailing in Baramulla, where he is contesting against Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party's Mir Mohammad Fayaz and Jammu & Kashmir People Conference's Sajad Gani Lone.In J&K, extensive security measures were in place. Early results showed BJP leading in Jammu and Udhampur, JKNC leading in Rajouri and Srinagar, and an Independent candidate leading in Baramulla.The Srinagar Lok Sabha seat holds significance as one of the five constituencies in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
The 2024 Lok Sabha Elections was the first general election held in the region post the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.In 2019, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) president and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah won the seat in 2019. Before Farooq, his son Omar Abdullah and mother Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah have also represented the seat in the Lok Sabha.In the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the NC fielded Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, who faced stiff competition from PDP's Waheed-ur-Rehman Para and Mohammad Ashraf Mir of the J&K Apni Party (JKAP).
Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) refrained from nominating candidates in any of the three seats in Kashmir, including Srinagar.The Srinagar Lok Sabha seat had 24 candidates competing, including one woman candidate, Waheeda Tabasum Shah, cancer surgeon Ashraf Qazi and social media influencer Jibran Firdous Dar. 2024 also saw a significant surge in candidate nomination.
