Eastern Scotland is gearing up for another storm and further heavy flooding as the Met Office has issued a second red «danger to life» weather alert in a week. Torrential rain and high winds are apprehended across the UK. The Met Office has said that parts of Angus and Aberdeenshire could receive another 70-100mm of rain on Saturday. These areas have already been hit by severe flooding.
Besides, three severe flood warnings have also been issued in Derbyshire. Three people have died in the storm in this area. The Police have said that a man was swept away by a swollen brook in Shropshire on Friday. A van driver was killed by a fallen tree in Forfar on Thursday. Besides a woman was swept to her death in the Water of Lee in Glen Esk in a separate incident.
In further warning, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has said that Saturday's rain would «prolong flooding impacts» and cause additional disruption. Meanwhile, the Met Office has also issued flood warnings for Derby City Water Treatment Works, Little Chester, Eastgate and Cattle Market, and Racecourse Park at Chaddesden.
It has affected rail transport as well. Taking precautions ahead of the impending storm, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has said it is running «an extremely limited service» but trains could be «subject to short-notice cancellation». It operates services between Scotland and London on the east coast main line. It has said that parts of its network have been affected by the flooding. There is no train service at all in the north of Edinburgh. The Midland Main Line from Sheffield to London too has been hit.
