Manjesh Kumar, a 42-year-old property dealer, had hired a hitman to eliminate his business partner, but the hitman double-crossed him, ultimately killing Manjesh instead.
The drama began when Arjun Kumar, a former Army man and the hitman hired by Manjesh, decided to betray him. Arjun informed Sanjay Singh, Manjesh’s business partner, about the plan. Seizing the opportunity, Sanjay, 42, offered Arjun a hefty Rs 10 crore to turn the tables and eliminate Manjesh instead.
Police investigations revealed that Manjesh was found dead in a rented house in Patel Nagar, Dehradun, which belonged to one of the accused’s accomplices. The cause of death was strangulation, with shoe laces being used as the murder weapon.
Arjun Kumar, 30, was arrested on Monday near a court in Sonepat while attempting to surrender. His partner-in-crime, Sachin, was captured near the Asharodi check-post as he tried to flee Dehradun. Sanjay Singh, the mastermind behind the murder, and another accomplice, Afzal Malik, 29, were later arrested.
The motive behind the crime stemmed from a growing rift between Manjesh and Sanjay, which had intensified due to a dispute over a high-value real estate deal worth crores. As per TOI, police said that Arjun confessed during interrogation that he was lured into betraying Manjesh after Sanjay promised him Rs 10 crore from an upcoming land deal worth Rs 90 crore.
